PAINT CURE LAMP, INFRARED

NOTES, REQUIREMENTS, INFORMATION, ETC.

Infrared lamps are used for drying partial surfaces and for quick drying of putty and filler. The electromagnetic waves emitted are only converted into heat in the metal bodywork of the vehicle (not suitable for plastics). For this reason, the drying occurs mainly from the inside to the outside, starting at the surface of the body panel. Infrared lamps can be used on both solvent-based and water-based paint materials.
Infrared lamps operating in the short-wave band range reach full power very quickly and can produce an object temperature of over 150°C in a relatively short time. These devices feature a number of power settings (some switch automatically from preheat to full power) and require strict adherence to the specific switch-on time and the range to the object. A few devices are already available with non-contact object temperature measurement and temperature regulation. All the user has to do is set the desired object temperature . It may be that such systems will be available as upgrades for existing devices in the near future.

Medium-wave emitters have longer warm-up and drying time, although they are easier to use.
e.g. Filler drying short wave 4-6 , medium wave 8-10 minutes,
Base paint: short wave 8-10, Medium wave 10-14 minutes,
Some devices are available that operate with a so-called "fast medium wave". This provides an acceptable warm-up time, coupled with a reduced risk of damage to the object (overheating, scorching). This technology also has beneficial effects on the service life of the device's reflectors.

Approx. drying times in minutes as quoted by the lamp manufacturers:
Putty approx. 4-5 minutes
2-component primer/filler approx. 5-8 minutes
2-component paint approx. 8-10 minutes
2-component clear lacquer approx. 9-11 minutes
Water-based paint approx. 3-5 minutes

QUALITY ASSURANCE AND UTILITY VALUE RETENTION:
Keep within the object ranges, temperatures and drying times specified by the paint and lamp manufacturers. When painting in adjacent workstations, maintain a safe distance in accordance with the lamp manufacturer's specifications, e.g. 5 meters (15 feet). Do not expose the eyes to direct infrared light at close range. Use the handles provided to move the lamp. If used in a paint booth, ensure good ventilation. Keep the lamp clean.
